DIRECTOR PROFILE
CRAIG MATTOCKS
Craig is a Chartered Building Surveyor with 28 years’ experience of advising upon properties in the commercial, residential, rural, public and private sectors and third sector (not-for-profit) practicing in England for 15 years prior to relocating to the Scottish Borders.
Craig is a Certified Historic Building Professional (ie Conservation Accredited Surveyor) having achieved accreditation from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2017. He has worked upon some of Scotland’s finest listed properties including Bute House and Queen’s Gallery in Edinburgh, Torosay Castle on the Isle of Mull and Thornton Castle, Lawrencekirk as well as regularly delivering building conservation related services to the National Trust for Scotland.
Craig is a past Chair of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Scottish Building Surveying Professional Board and former member of the RICS Scotland Board. He also is an active member of the RICS Scotland Dilapidations Forum Steering Group.
In 2014 Craig became an Incorporated member of the Association for Project Safety (APS) demonstrating his ability to assist Clients, Designers and Contractors with compliance with the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015
Past positions include Director at Gibbon Lawson McKee Ltd (an Edinburgh based firm of Chartered Building Surveyors and Architects) and Partner at Underwoods LLP (a Northampton based multi-disciplinary commercial surveying practice) where he was head of Building Surveying in each firm. Prior to this Craig gained experience as an Associate Building Surveyor at Lambert Smith Hampton (a nationwide surveying practice) and as a Building Surveyor responsible for all building facilities at British Antarctic Surveys’ Halley Research Station. Craig’s Building Surveying career started at Boots the Chemist where he was responsible for the planned and reactive maintenance of 56 out of town retail units together with the fit-out of new stores. Throughout his career, he has successfully delivered Project Management and Contract Administration services for the repair and refurbishment of traditional and modern buildings, the conversion and adaptation of historic and listed buildings and new build construction in all sectors ranging in value up to £12m.
